Star Party Rescheduled

Platte Valley Astronomical Observers to Scan the Sky
Join Wilson Public Library on Friday, September 24, at sundown (approximately 9:00pm) for a star party! Come through the main gates at the Cozad High School football field to sign in and get a glow necklace, then wander to the north end of the field and see some amazing celestial offerings. A star party is a gathering of amateur astronomers for the purpose of observing the sky. This event will be led by the Platte Valley Astronomical Observers, amateur astronomers from Nebraska and Solar Ambassadors for NASA. Large telescopes will be available for the public to view celestial objects closer than with the naked eye.  Feel free to bring your own telescopes, smart devices with sky watching apps, or binoculars. Cross your fingers for clear skies, as this event is rescheduled from July. Watch our Facebook page for updates in case of inclement weather conditions. The event is free and open and to the public.
The group Platte Valley Astronomical Observers was formed in the spring of 2000.  It is comprised of amateur astronomers primarily from the cities of Grand Island, Hastings, and Kearney, Nebraska.  Mark Urwiller, formerly of Cozad, is a past president. The Platte Valley Astronomical Observers meet at 7:30 PM on the 4th Thursday of every month at the Crane Trust Nature and Visitors Center.  Meetings concentrate on hands-on observing or sharing entertaining programs.
