In January 2023, at the Annual Conference Awards ceremony, the Nebraska Concrete Paving Association (NCPA) honored the City of Cozad Street Department with the "Best Urban Street" project award for their work in 2023. Public Services Commissioner Jimmy Weinmaster accepted the award on behalf of the department. The City of Cozad embarked on the Paving Improvement Project in 2021, focusing on rehabilitating local streets to enhance services for residents, businesses, and facilitate future development. The project encompassed various areas including street intersections and thoroughfares like 4th Street, 13th Street, Potter Avenue, Papio Lane, and Meridian Avenue. Notably, the project involved the construction of new sidewalks and ADA ramps to improve pedestrian safety, utilizing over 4,000 cubic yards of concrete for paving, driveways, and sidewalks totaling over 200,000 square feet. Moreover, upgrades to water mains and installation of new sewer mains were undertaken to enhance infrastructure. The success of the project was attributed to the diligent efforts of Paulsen Construction and Olsson.
