Comeca Camp & Retreat Center, located near Cozad, has a longstanding tradition of hosting various events, embodying its role as a hub for worship, recreation, and community engagement. This March, it will host Gothenburg’s YMCA St. Paddy’s run, aligning with its mission to promote health and wellness in the region. The idea for the run originated from YMCA Youth and Family Director Micah Waskowiak and Executive Director Julie Czochara, who recognized the opportunity to utilize Comeca's trails for the event. The run, now in its fourth year, follows a scenic path through historical landmarks and popular camp spots. Waskowiak emphasizes the accessibility of 5K races, emphasizing the importance of enjoyment over competition. The event offers various perks for participants, including themed prizes and post-race refreshments. The YMCA's involvement in organizing 5Ks has expanded, with the St. Paddy’s run being one of several annual events. Registration for the 4th Annual St. Paddy’s 5K at Camp Comeca is open, with a registration fee of $25 for all participants.
